Course format


  • 14 hours of e-learning material*: theoretical background of current frameworks on impact of research, Impact Pathway case studies, quizzes and exercises, in a variety of format (texts, illustrations, videos).

  • 8 online modules for a progressive approach


  • 5 x 1 hour live coaching sessions, to discuss with your peers and get feedback from your instructor on your current project


  • 1 training certificate to officialise your newly acquired knowledge

  • MODULE 2 - Fundamentals of Impact in R&I settings
  • MODULE 3 - Integrate societal impact into your job & practices
  • MODULE 4 - Describe the societal problem your project is addressing and its beneficiaries
  • MODULE 5 - Qualify the societal impact of your R&I projects
  • MODULE 6 - Quantify the societal impact of your R&I projects
  • MODULE 7 - Diversify your research partners by including players from society
  • MODULE 8 - Integrate the societal dimension when answering calls

Spring coaching dates

All sessions start at 3pm CET

  • Introductory session (30 min): 15th of April 2025
  • Coaching #1 (60 min): 29th of April - Review of modules 1 & 2
  • Coaching #2 (60 min): 13th of May - Review of modules 3 & 4
  • Coaching #3 (60 min): 27th of May - Review of modules 5 & 6
  • Coaching #4 (60 min): 10th of June - Review of modules 7 & 8, course wrap-up

Instructor

Mélanie Marcel

Mélanie is the founder of SoScience. Her unique expertise in Europe leads her to advise international public bodies, such as manufacturers, on new innovation practices serving the common good. Through her passion for exploring the intersection of science and global impact, she became a recognized expert on the field of Responsible Research and Innovation. She is an Echoing Green Fellow (2017), Ashoka Fellow (2018) and won the 2018 Grinnell College Innovator for Social Justice Prize. She is an expert at the European level regarding responsible innovation policies and programs to facilitate science with and for society.
